| We get a number of questions and I wanted to answer them all here. If you have any questions that aren't covered here, please e-mail me at sharla@straightfromearth.com Q. Where is the produce from? A. All our produce is Certified Organic, unless otherwise stated. We try to get local produce as much as we can and for as long as we can. There is definitely a need for more local produce if anyone is considering starting organic farming. Otherwise, our produce comes from an international supplier in Vancouver that brings our wonderful produce in from all over the world. If you are already producing Certified produce, write us, and keep us updated on what is available! Q. How do I use the order sheet page? A. Firstly, enter your name in the name box. It's not fun when we know someone ordered, but we don't know who. Next, check off which bin you would like. Even if you are making substitutions, but would like a $20 bin, please just mark off $20 Basic Bin. If you are choosing the U-Pick Bin, tell us in the special requests box, at the end of the page, what your price limit is. If you just want exact items, and whatever they add up to be, please tell us exact quantities. Please tell us if you need exact quantities of an item. For example, if you need exactly 10 apples to fit a recipe, or that is the exact quantity that your family eats in a week. When making substitutions, take out the same amount of items that you are putting in. Try and estimate the costs when making changes to the set bin. When you are done making the order, hit the SUBMIT button at the bottom. If you need us to reply with the exact cost of your order, please ask us to get back to you before your delivery day. Q. Why aren't the produce prices posted on the order sheet? A. The way these businesses are set up is to carry the least amount of overhead as possible. Most delivery services that I have known, don't offer a large selection of substitutions or additions, nor do they offer a U-Pick Bin. By offering a set weekly bin there is less chance for waste, and it makes it easier for us to order. We feel it is important for us to offer our U-Pick Bin being in Creston, because so many people can garden themselves and haven't the need for all the produce we have in our set weekly bin. By showing the prices, we run the risk of being stuck with cases of the most expensive items; which in turn, would drive all our other prices up. It just makes it much easier for us and less expensive for you if we just do it this way. One day we hope to have a processing kitchen, which would solve the waste problem. Also, the website needs to be more sophisticated. One day we'll have better technology in place for ordering. Q. What do I do with my unripe fruit? A. Some produce comes to us under ripe. It is a practice of some fruit producers to avoid loss of crops due to pests. To ripen your fruit faster, place it in a paper bag with an Ethylene producing fruit (bananas, apples, & pears). Store at room temperature. |
